  96. 1.  WHAT IS SNAGIT/32?
  97. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  98.   Welcome!  SnagIt/32 is the Windows NT and Windows 95 version of the 
  99.   popular screen capture utility, SnagIt.  SnagIt has been providing 
  100.   Microsoft Windows users with an easy way to capture and print 
  101.   Windows screens since it was first released in 1990. In "Windows 3.1
  102.   Secrets," author Brian Livingston calls SnagIt "the print utility 
  103.   Microsoft Windows forgot."
  104.  
  105.   SnagIt/32 is a powerful Windows image, text, and video capture
  106.   program that allows you many options. SnagIt/32 is for any computer
  107.   user who needs to capture more than a few screens for any purpose, 
  108.   such as:

  110.   o  Capturing screens and menus in a Windows program to create
  111.      documentation.
  112.  
  113.   o  Saving a screen to send to someone else.
  114.  
  115.   o  Printing screens to help plan program design changes.

  134. 2.  SNAGIT/32 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  136.   In order to run SnagIt/32, your system must meet these specifications:
  137.  
  138.   o  An IBM PC or compatible that meets the minimum hardware
  139.      requirements for your version of Microsoft Windows.
  140.  
  141.   o  Windows NT 3.51 (or higher) or Windows 95 installed and
  142.      configured on your system.
  143.  
  144.   o  A mouse or other pointing device
  145.  
  146.   o  For printed output, a Windows-supported printer that can print
  147.      bitmaps. (This includes most of the laser, dot matrix and ink jet
  148.      printers that Windows supports.  Plotters are not recommended for
  149.      use with SnagIt/32 due to their inability to print bitmaps.)

  164. 3.1 Using SnagIt/32's On-line Help

  166.   SnagIt/32's on-line Help system is compatible with the Windows Help
  167.   subsystems.  The SnagIt/32 Help file contains all of the information
  168.   you'll need to use SnagIt/32.

  170.   To access SnagIt/32 Help, select Help from the SnagIt/32 menu bar, 
  171.   then Help Index from the drop-down menu.

  173.   To get a quick overview of SnagIt/32 essentials, select Quick Help

  229. 5.  KNOWN PROBLEMS OR LIMITATIONS

  231.     o  The full Text Capture feature is only available on Windows 95
  232.        systems.  SnagIt/32 will only capture text from the clipboard
  233.        on Windows NT systems.
  234.  
  235.     o  The anti-aliasing feature only supports systems using
  236.        greater than 256 colors.
  237.  
  238.     o  SnagIt/32 hangs on e-mail output on Windows 95 if only 16-bit
  239.        MS Mail has been configured (i.e. MAPI is in use, but neither
  240.        MS Exchange or any other 32-bit MAPI mail client has been
  241.        configured).

  244. 6.  SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
  245. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  246. 6.1 Installation Instructions
  247.  
  248.   The SnagIt/32 installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  249.   application.  You must have Windows NT 3.51 (or higher) or 
  250.   Windows 95 installed prior to installing SnagIt/32.  Setup will 
  251.   automatically detect the version of Windows in use and copy the
  252.   appropriate files during the install.  To install SnagIt/32, 
  253.   perform the following steps:
  254.  
  255.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  256.  
  257.   2. Insert the SnagIt/32 diskette into a floppy drive.
  258.  
  259.   For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:
  260.  
  261.   3. From the Start menu, select Run
  262.  
  263.   For Windows NT 3.51 users:
  264.  
  265.   3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
  266.      from the drop down menu.
  267.  
  268.   For all users:
  269.  
  270.   4. In the dialog box, enter:
  271.           a:\setup
  272.      (If you are installing SnagIt/32 from a diskette drive other than
  273.      the A drive, you will need to change the drive letter in the
  274.      command line above.)

  276.   5. Click on the OK button.
  277.  
  278.   6. Follow the instructions given by the setup wizard for correct
  279.      installation of the product.

  284.   The SnagIt/32 setup program copies the following files to your
  285.   computer during installation:

  299. 6.3  Uninstall Instructions
  300.  
  301.   If after installing SnagIt/32, you find it necessary to remove
  302.   the software from your computer, perform the following steps:
  303.  
  304.   Uninstall instructions for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  305.  
  306.   1. Run the Windows Control Panel
  307.  
  308.   2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.
  309.  
  310.   3. Select SnagIt/32 from the list of applications that can 
  311.      uninstalled by Windows.
  312.  
  313.   4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall SnagIt/32.
  314.  
  315.   Uninstall instructions for Windows NT 3.51
  316.  
  317.   1. In Program Manager, open the program group where you installed
  318.      SnagIt.
  319.  
  320.   2. Click on the Uninstall SnagIt/32 icon to remove SnagIt/32 from
  321.      your system.

  323.   If the uninstall program encounters errors, see the following 
  324.   section for uninstall instructions.

  327. 6.4  Manual Uninstall Instructions
  328.  
  329.   If you encounter problems during the uninstall, here are the steps 
  330.   you can take to manually uninstall SnagIt/32 from your computer.
  331.  
  332.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows NT 3.51
  333.  
  334.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  335.  
  336.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was
  337.      installed. Click once on the SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press
  338.      the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  339.  
  340.   3. If you selected "Automatically run SnagIt/32 when Windows starts"
  341.      during installation, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  342.  
  343.      In Program Manager, find the Startup group. Click once on the
  344.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm that
  345.      you wish to delete the program item.
  346.  
  347.   4. Run File Manager and change to the directory in which you
  348.      installed SnagIt/32.  Delete all the files listed in section 6.2.
  349.  
  350.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  351.  
  352.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  353.  
  354.   2. From the Start Menu, select Settings and then Taskbar. Now
  355.      configure your Start Menu Programs by clicking on the Advanced
  356.      button.
  357.  
  358.   3. Find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was installed. Click
  359.      once on the SnagIt/32 filename to highlight it. Press the delete
  360.      key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  361.  
  362.   4. If you selected "Automatically run SnagIt/32 when Windows starts"
  363.      during installation, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  364.  
  365.      Follow step #2 and then find the Startup group. Click once on the
  366.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  367.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  368.  
  369.   5. Run Windows Explorer and change to the directory in which you
  370.      installed SnagIt/32. Delete all the files listed in section 6.2.

  373. 7. REGISTERING SNAGIT TWIN PACK
  374. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  375.   This program and its associated files are part of an evaluation
  376.   package copyrighted by TechSmith Corporation. SnagIt/32 is not in 
  377.   the public domain.  This program must be registered if it is used
  378.   beyond the 45 day evaluation period.
  379.  
  380.   Single-User SnagIt/32
  381.  
  382.   Registration entitles the licensee to install either the 32 bit or
  383.   the 16 bit version of SnagIt/32 and to switch between the two 
  384.   without further payment.  The single-user license price is $39.95.
  385.  
  386.   When you register SnagIt/32, you have the option of requesting a
  387.   registered version of the software on diskette or of requesting a
  388.   software key to register the version you have. The software key
  389.   immediately removes all registration reminder screens.
  390.  
  391.   Multi-User SnagIt/32
  392.  
  393.   Registration entitles the licensed organization to install 10 copies
  394.   of SnagIt/32, in any combination of 16 bit and 32 bit. A single
  395.   diskette is shipped along with the multi-user license.  The 10-user
  396.   license price is $200.00.

  398.   Registration Instructions

  400.   1.  Select the SnagIt/32 program's Help menu.
  401.  
  402.   2.  Select Register SnagIt/32 from the menu.
  403.  
  404.   3.  Click on the Registration Form button.  Enter your registration
  405.       information in the fields provided.
  406.  
  407.       NOTE: You must specify a name or company name when you register.
  408.             Your software key will be personalized for that name ONLY.
  409.  
  410.   4.  When you are finished, select OK. This will create a text file
  411.       called REGISTER.TXT in the SnagIt/32 default directory. This is
  412.       your registration and order form.  It includes a price sheet
  413.       and your Product ID number.
  414.  
  415.   5.  Windows Notepad will now open REGISTER.TXT automatically,
  416.       allowing you to edit and/or print the registration form.  While
  417.       you are editing, please complete any blank items, including
  418.       quantities, totals, and payment information. DO NOT EDIT THE
  419.       PRODUCT ID NUMBER. Note that shipping charges are only
  420.       applicable to diskette orders.
  421.  
  422.   6.  Return the registration form, with payment, to TechSmith
  423.       Corporation by any of the methods described on the form.  Upon
  424.       receipt of your order, TechSmith will generate your diskette or
  425.       software key. It will then be sent to you by the method of
  426.       your choice, either e-mail, fax, postal delivery or other.
  427.  
  428.   If you have elected to receive a software key, use the following
  429.   steps to complete the registration process.

  431.   7.  Select the Help->Register SnagIt/32 menu item.
  432.  
  433.   8.  Click on the Enter Software Key button.

  435.   9.  Enter your registration key, exactly as it is shown, in the
  436.       field provided.

  616. This program and its associated files are part of an evaluation
  617. package copyrighted by TechSmith Corporation. SnagIt/32 is not in the
  618. public domain. This program must be licensed if it is used beyond the
  619. 45-day evaluation period.  The files that comprise the SnagIt/32
  620. evaluation package, or the SnagIt archived file (SNAG3240.ZIP),
  621. may be freely distributed or listed by software vendors so long as the
  622. software package and individual files are not modified.

  624. Disk Vendors, Shareware Distributors and BBSs may charge a nominal fee
  625. for distribution of the SnagIt/32.  However, the recipient of SnagIt/32
